The song conveys a deep emotional impact connected with the transition from a world of ideological diversity to one of cultural of uniformity observed in the early 1980s. However, it is worth noting that the critique of the societal changes of 1981 is an oblique critique of the modern world, one where where the excesses of the neoliberism have led to the extreme conseqences of cultural impoverishment and ecological holocaust.
